Post-Holiday Sale Strategy + Top Tips for the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale

December 22, 2017 | Tips & Best Practices

With the shopping season winding down, we encourage you to think beyond gift guides and start thinking about your post-holiday sale strategy! While it might seem early, now is the time to start thinking about how you will share those great post-holiday sales. One of the biggest sales to note is the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale, which begins on December 26. Since that is only one day after Christmas, the time to start earning revenue off sales is now. Read below for our top tips on how to strategically monetize with Nordstrom this year.

  1. Dive into your analytics to understand your top-converting products and categories. Feature the exact or similar items that are in the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale.
  2. The top-earnings days from the last Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale were the first 2 days of the sale (12/26/16 – 12/27/16) and the very last day (1/2/17). Plan your content ahead to cover these days for this year.
  3. Call out Nordstrom sale items in various price ranges (e.g. Favorites Under $50). Last year’s average order value (AOV) during the 2016 Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale was $118.
  4. Get creative with categories for the sale. Since people may have already shopped for their friends and family, spin it as “Gift yourself for the new year” or get a little creative with “Gifts for the one you forgot,” “Gifts for the new year,” and “Gifts for yourself.” Most resolutions revolve around fitness, so this may be a great time to create a widget for activewear on sale. People are also looking for great deals on winter staples like jackets, gloves, and hats.
  5. Take a look at customer ratings for items. The higher the rating, the more likely it is to convert. You can also make this a widget “Top Rated by Nordstrom Customers” or note it in your post.
  6. Drop cookies now! Start seeding your content with Nordstrom affiliate links so your readers are already clicking on those links and you get credit for their purchases.
  7. Create a widget with Nordstrom sale items and make sure to utilize the “Sold Out Notification” tool as the sale continues. Don’t let your readers click on unavailable items throughout this sale as products will sell out quickly! Bonus points for creating multiple widgets by categories (e.g. Tops I Love, The Best Denim, etc.) that highlight your top-converting categories.
  8. Take a look at what has performed well with Nordstrom the past few months. Put those products into a list and see what goes on sale. Then, put those products in a widget as your “best sellers.”
  9. Don’t try to be everything to everyone. Let your data do the talking. What has performed well? Concentrate on that and get specific with what you think your audience will like.
  10. Make sure you’re choosing products that have multiple sizes and colors (if applicable). If there’s only one XXS left in the product, make sure to call that out too. This is a great way to utilize captions under widgets as well.
  11. Provide as much added value to your audience as possible. What can you add to make your sale picks unique to you? Should they size up in that top? Do those jeans get a little stretchy after one wear? How long does it take to break in those Frye boots. Your audience will come to trust you even more and be more likely to convert.
  12. Work smarter not harder. You probably have a bunch of Looks that contain Nordstrom items. If you see those items go on sale, create a new “Collection” and embed that new code as a post.
  13. Speaking of Looks, now is the time to create some with Nordstrom products and share those Looks to your social channels for even more coverage.
  14. Tag #Nordstrom and #MyShopStyle on all your social mentions and Looks shares so we then can share our favorite posts of yours
  15. When you share on social try not to share a dressing room selfie, those don’t perform as well and we are looking to share your best flatlays or OOTD of you wearing the Nordstrom product(s).

Best of Luck and happy blogging!
