the top 3 girl-boss-making tips we learned while attending the Workshop by Bloguettes

February 15, 2018 | Tips & Best Practices

We had the amazing opportunity to attend The Workshop by Bloguettes in Phoenix, Arizona last week. For anyone new to the company, Bloguettes is a creative strategy and design studio that specializes in branding, content creation, and social media. The event featured powerhouse guest speakers, carefully curated brand activations, and some really, really good coffee (here’s looking at you, Gypsy Cup).

Our two days at The Workshop felt more like a digital marketing dreamland. Not only were we surrounded by inspiring and gifted content creators, but Bloguettes filled every inch of the event space with Instagram-worthy photo ops.

Here are the top 3 things we learned:

  1. There’s nothing we aren’t worthy of

Chrissy Weems, CEO and Founder of popular Arizona-based jewelry company Origami Owl gave a meaningful talk about personal achievement and overcoming obstacles. Her message? “Getting caught in the patterns of everyday can prevent you from reaching your full potential.” In other words, there are no limits on what you can do. In a poignant moment of self-reflection, Chrissy had attendees write down their goals, why they believe those goals couldn’t be reached, and finally, a solution to eliminate that doubt. Set to the Wonder Woman score — she literally played the score in the background — we walked out of that session with a new outlook on both business and life.

  1. Turn a brand into a movement

Kim Johnson, Community Manager of cult favorite Glossier’s Into The Gloss had some great insight on what it means to build, interact, and grow online communities. She stressed that a business and their community must have a “mutually beneficial relationship.” Communities want engagement on a deeper level; in-person activations, phone calls, coffee dates, whatever it takes to understand their journey to your brand on a more personal level. Kim ended her chat with a bold statement, “A strong community turns a brand into a movement.” There is a powerful force behind community voices that should not and cannot be ignored.

  1. Be rewarded for beautiful content

In a particularly special session, ShopStyle Collective’s own Deanna Ritter spoke to a packed room about leveraging affiliate marketing. She cited that 63% of people rely on influencers as sources of inspiration for shopping apparel and 91% (!!) of millennials bought something immediately upon seeing it in a blog. Basically, with statistics that strong, why isn’t everyone being paid for their content? Deanna also emphasized that along with monetary perks, affiliate helps “prove influence” by providing the data brands need for campaigns. In this new age of digital marketing, it’s all about authenticity and proactively using the tools affiliate marketing offers to get the most out of your content.
