Retailer Spotlight: Olivela — the brand that makes you look good while doing good.

March 13, 2018 | Retailer & Brand Updates

  • How did you guys get started? Tell us a little about Olivela’s mission and the #TheOlivelaEffect?

Olivela was founded in June 2017 by social entrepreneur Stacey Boyd. It’s an innovative philanthropic shopping site with a mission to provide transformational funding to improve the lives of children around the world, allowing consumers to support by purchasing what they love. With each item sold, a portion of the proceeds go directly to a select group of charitable partners, including CARE Jordan, GOOD+ Foundation, Malala Fund, VH1 Save the Music Foundation, and Too Young To Wed.

Boyd was inspired to launch Olivela while at the Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya with Malala Yousafzai. She ideated the concept as it had the ability to scale quickly and provide transformational funding for children year around. To date, Olivela shoppers have provided over 12,000 days of school to at-risk children around the globe.

A personalized customer dashboard called “The Olivela Effect” will track the impact their total purchases have in supporting charitable organizations. Purchases from the site will arrive in Olivela-branded packaging.

3 tips to build up your brand via Alt Summit

March 8, 2018 | Must Know, Tips & Best Practices

Last week, members of the ShopStyle Collective team were lucky enough to attend Alt Summit in (mostly) sunny Palm Springs. It was a special experience for a lot of reasons; the venue was gorgeous, the panels were thoughtful and strategic, and the attendees and speakers were some of the most engaged and inspiring content creators we have ever met.

The mid-century charm of Palm Springs included, here are our top three takeaways from Alt:

  1.     Affiliate is the future

Working at Collective, we might be a bit biased about the importance of affiliate, but we do have backup. In the “Negotiation and Proving Influence” panel, VP of Raised Real and former head of product marketing at Refinery29, Benish Shah, discussed how brands rely on ROI for their partnerships. Now, it’s not so much about reach as it is conversion and it’s up to influencers to get “ahead of the conversation and show their power of influence.” The easiest way to prove influence is by using affiliate and the data it provides.

  1.     #STL is more than a partnership

In ShopStyle’s own panel, “Next Level Shoppable Content,” Alison and Lizzy of ShopStyle, Mary Orton of Memorandum, and Tiffany Black of Pinterest discussed shoppable content, technologies and the latest ShopStyle x Pinterest partnership. In retail’s data-driven world, connecting discovery and inspiration to action is vital for successful ecommerce. Shoppable pins foster that connection by providing an almost endless stream of discovery, as well as reward for content creation. Mary drove the point home when she said, “Pay attention to platforms – like Pinterest – that give you tools that align with how you run your business and monetize your content.”

  1.     Invest time in Instastories

Ilana Wiles of @mommyshorts had some amazing insight on growing Instagram in the age of changing algorithms. Her advice? Put love and care into curating your Instastories, because it’s the best way for followers to see your sense of humor and personal life. People like snapshots into your daily life (even unglamorous ones), so they are the cherry on top to authentic engagement.

Whenever you create a Look through ShopStyle, that Look, as well as your tagged products and affiliate links, will instantly publish to your Pinterest board. Watch our tutorial video on how it works. As always, you should only monetize content that is your own. All images used in Shop The Look Pins should be original content that you have created and own the rights to.
