Why You Need to Create an Editorial Calendar and What to Focus On in It!

July 28, 2015 | Money Monday, Tips & Best Practices

As a blogger, you have a million new apps to download and a new social platform popping up what seems like each week. While getting up to date with the latest offerings in technology is important to your brand, what you should focus on is reeling it all in to one place and aggregating a place and a voice for your blog. This place is otherwise known as an editorial calendar. It’s something every serious blogger should create, implement, and run their blog from.

An editorial calendar will be the road map to your content production. It allows you to set deadlines and shows you an overview of all upcoming content to keep your blog focused and on brand.

It’s easy to create a calendar, but what you put on the calendar is where you need to be strategic! This tool can allow you to focus your energy in one place and ultimately make you more money.

Here are some tips on what you should focus on when you build your calendar.

  • Have a regularly scheduled shopping feature, like Denim Days or Tuesday Shoesday. This creates a dedicated clickable feature for your readers, equaling more links to use.
  • Create clickable posts on your highest earning category. Do you perform well on dresses? Do a weekly roundup of your favorite ones according to the season.
  • Focus on current events. NYFW, holiday sales, and blogger conferences are all great topics to cover in an upcoming blog post.
  • Focus on season changes. Around August, we all start looking towards back-to-school and fall gear, stay on top of it by incorporating similar content.
  • Keep an eye on your analytics from last year. Looking at the previous year will allow you to see which of your posts did best. Focus on creating similar content.

Using an editorial calendar should be another tool to help you build your business and grow your earnings!

J.Crew— New arrivals are here, and they are really good! Check out the 10 new arrivals from one of our favorite retailers that every woman needs right now! We are currently obsessed with all things striped and anything oxford.

Barney’s Warehouse— is having a big deal kind of sale! How about an extra 70% off clearance? Yes, please! From buttery Chloé totes to fancy IRO wedges, BWH has it all, and your readers will want it all— as do we.

Nordstrom— This retailer with the infamous Anniversary Sale that’s happening now for everyone to purchase from, and the deals are even better than before! These eight brands are having INCREDIBLE deals and you should be focusing on them when you message out the sale to your readers: Boss, Burberry, Eileen Fisher, Kate Spade New York, Nike, Topshop, Tory Burch, and Vince.

Make that Money: Understanding your Analytics

July 16, 2015 | Money Monday, Tips & Best Practices

Understanding your analytics is a big part of using the ShopStyle Collective platform. The Insights page helps you understand what type of content and products your readers love the most. Here are some pro tips to use all sections of the Insights page. Remember to add a day on your editorial calendar to go over analytics at least once a week!

Make the most of Top Products:
The Top Products section on your Insights page shows top-performing merchandise specific to your account, including the amount each item has made thus far. From these Top Product images you can decipher what your readers love, what they want to click on, and similar products your should try to link to in the future. Here’s how to use the Top Products section:

  • Always share top products on your social channels. The top row of products will be your highest performing, so make sure to tweet and share those links in an organic and authentic way.
  • Repost top sale items. Top Products will tell you when an item is on sale, and that is something you should call out on your blog when you add these items to a widget, as your readers are more likely to click on an item when you tell them it’s on sale.
  • Replace sold-out items. Notice that your top-performing items are sold out? Be sure to replace them on the blog with similar items, and mention in a new blog post or tweet that you’ve found similar items to what was sold out (but make sure you tell your readers when the originals are back in stock).
  • Pay attention to visual trends. Use the Top Products section to analyze visual trends of what performs best on your blog. Blue and white prints for summer? Classic basics, maybe?

Make the most of the pie charts:

  • Use your best day to drive traffic. These charts should become your barometer prior to starting your blog post. Strive to share more sale items on your social channels on your best performing day. Create some newsy and timely content on days that need some improvement. Have a low traffic day on Fridays? Try creating a weekend sales must haves post for your readers that day.
  • Use your best category to create content. If your best converting category is dresses, that shows that your readers are loving your dress picks, so give them more! Strive to post an entire blog of similar dresses you think they will click on.
  • Accessories = more clicks. Readers love to accessorize, so always include jewelry, shoes, and beauty products, as those are higher performing categories.
  • Mondays are proven to have a higher open rate. Higher performing weekdays generally fall toward the beginning of the week, so make sure you consistently blog early in the week.

Blogger Happenings this Week!

July 15, 2015 | Must Know

This week is already flying by and there are so many events still going on! Check out this week’s blogger happenings lineup.

New York Men’s Fashion Week is happening now through July 16. It’s the first New York Men’s Fashion Week ever so the shows and the styles are top-notch. The boys are bringing it, and we can’t wait to see the style evidence to prove it. Nominate your stylish stud by posting an Instagram of him with #MenWithSStyle, #ShopStyle, and #sweepstakes to enter to win a Saint Laurent clutch (yeah, I know!). Don’t forget to blog your favorite looks from this week-long event, and create widgets featuring your top guy picks!

Miami Swim Week is July 15 to 20, and it’s the official resource of the biggest names in swim– think Clover Canyon, Mikoh, and Mara Hoffman runway shows. If that don’t make you long for sun, sand, and colorful barely there swimwear, then I don’t know what will. It should at least be a good excuse to blog about your favorite summer swimwear and how you dress up your pool style.

BlogHer, one of the largest conferences for female content creators, is July 16 through 18 also in New York City. Connect, network, learn new skills, and leave with lots of inspiration! Looks like conference tickets are still available, but you can snag a front-row seat (for free!) and tune in to the conference from the comfort of your home– details this way. Your readers will LOVE an overview of how valuable you find all the info coming out of this three-day conference.

Are there any other events you’re looking forward to?

Carlina
