Corporate in Color’s #CreatorStory
Q: Tell us your story of how you got started?
A: We started in 2014, as we were both recent graduates and fresh in our careers. We noticed there weren’t many bloggers sharing stylish clothes that are budget friendly, and even fewer Black bloggers. We wanted to fil that gap and show women they can express their personal style at work without breaking the bank. We branched out to include career advice when we realized how many people found it helpful when we shared our experiences and tips.
Q: How do/did you navigate being a person of color wanting to become an influencer?
A: We embrace our Blackness and everything about it, from our unique experiences as Black women to our natural hair. Our community is built on our authenticity and we stay true to who we are. We also built a strong network of other influencers who are women of color and give us great advice and guidance when things get tough.
Q: How can your followers support some of your favorite black-owned businesses?
A: Throughout this month, our newsletters will highlight Black-owned businesses in different categories. They can subscribe to our newsletter to learn about these brands and shop with them. We also share amazing Black-owned businesses in our Instagram stories regularly. The best way to support Black-owned businesses is to become a loyal customer and spread the word about them!
Q: What advice would you give someone that wants to become an influencer?
A: Define your niche and get started! Having a niche makes it easier for you to focus your content and make sure you’re adding value. Stay consistent, even when it feels like no one is seeing your content. It gets tough but keep going and your hard work will pay off! Be willing to learn and grow along the way, and don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s! There’s room at the table for everyone.
